19th Annual Golf Outing a Hit
By Bill Alcaro

Beautiful Beacon Hill Country Club
was the venue for the 19th Annual Sandy Hook Foundation Golf Outing held
May 5, 2008. More than one hundred golfers gathered to take on the
challenging Beacon Hill track, competing in the best ball of four format
in the men’s and women’s division. The first place women’s team included
Luann Stavola, Kathy Beggans, Sheila McGraner, and Chris Hallard. Second
place went to Denise Stavola, Bonnie Buchner, Chris Anttonen, and Judy
Boeddinghaus. The women’s long drive was won by Karen Siciliano. Women’s
individual low gross went to Sue McClure.

The men’s division was very close.
First, second, and third place teams all had the same score and the ties
were broken on a match of scorecards. Emerging victorious was the
foursome of Win Boileau, Bob Jaskolski, Dan Colella, and Steve Rehm.
Second place went to Mike McEvoy, Jeff Madonna, Nick Ford, and Rick
Katz. Third place was garnered by the team of Andy Bott, John Motzel,
Kyle Magnussen, and Chris Rehders. Men’s long drive was won by Lee Cobb.
Men’s individual low gross went to Win Boileau with a 74.

Closest to the flagstick was won
by Tom Fahey at 8’ 5”. Rich Cooper won closest to the line coming up
merely 20” away. The putting contest winner was John Ward who received a
complimentary day of golf at Beacon Hill in the future for himself and
three friends.

The Sandy Hook Foundation Golf
Outing also includes a Battle of the Banks, Brokers, and Restaurants.
Foursomes with at least two members representing one of these
organizations compete in an inside match for the Foundation Cup, that
will be engraved with their company’s name, and is theirs to display at
their place of business until next year’s Outing. This year, the
Foundation Cup was won by Citi/Smith Barney.

The Foundation would like to thank
our major sponsors: Seastreak, Allied Fire and Safety, Bahrs Famous
Landing and Restaurant, and Buhler Chrysler, and to our other sponsors:
Michael Boylan, John McGraner, Maury Povich, John J. Verdon, M.D.,
Daniel DeDominic, Ichabod’s of Sea Bright, Shore Point Distributors, Mr.
and Mrs Jim Hutchinson, Investors Savings Bank, and Cosmetic Essence of
Holmdel. Also many thanks to our hole sponsors. The Foundation also
wishes to join Bill, his co-chairs Win Boileau, Ray Cosgrove, and Doug
Douty in thanking their entire committee. They chose a splendid location
and it was a spectacular spring day with 72 degree weather and a clear
blue sky, and the second story observation deck in Beacon Hill’s
recently opened new clubhouse provided exquisite views of Sandy Hook,
Officer’s Row at historic Fort Hancock, and Sandy Hook Bay.

The Annual End of Summer Party
will be held Friday, September 5,
2008
What better way is there to say
good-bye to summer than celebrating with good food, great friends,
and a beautiful night on one of the finest beach locations on the
shore? The Sandy Hook Foundation’s annual End of Summer Party
held at the North Beach Pavilion with over 330 guests in
attendance honors the best the Jersey Shore has to offer.
From the Lusty Lobster, the Salt Creek
Grille, Bahrs Restaurant and Marina, the Flaky Tart, and Brennan’s
Delicatessen, a chance auction featuring wares from the area’s
preeminent merchants and local artists and dancing to the fabulous band
High Road.
Proceeds from the End of Summer Party
support projects of the National Park Service at Sandy Hook, including
maintaining the historic Lighthouse Keepers Quarters and the next preservation project, the restoration of the mortar
battery across the street from the Lighthouse. Other projects that the
Foundation supports are the free summer beach concerts, shore bird
protection, non-native plant removal, summer weekend ferry service
directly from NYC, the oral history project (in conjunction with Monmouth
University), and more.
